A Word From Pastor
Church Family & Friends – 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting (Feb 1–21) 🙏
As we move into February, I want to invite our church family and anyone connected to this Facebook group who desires to join us to participate in 21 days of prayer and fasting, from February 1 through February 21.
Let me say this clearly at the beginning:
This fast is completely voluntary.
This is not about pressure or perfection, it’s about unity, discipline, and intentionally drawing closer to God together.
That said, because we are not babies anymore, and because we’ve been doing this for a few years now, I believe it’s time that we truly challenge ourselves.
Food Guidelines for the Fast
This is not a total food fast, but a disciplined eating fast.
1. Water with meals
• Please drink water with your meals
• Coffee in the morning is OK
2. No refined sugars
Please cut out refined or added sugars.
Examples to avoid:
• Soda and sweet tea
• Candy and desserts
• Cakes, cookies, donuts
• Sweetened snacks and packaged sweets
Natural sugars are allowed if needed, such as:
• Fruit
• Raw honey
• Pure maple syrup
• Natural sugars found in whole foods
It also wouldn’t hurt to limit our intake of bread and pasta, as these can act like sugar in the body.
If you do eat bread, consider better options such as:
• Sourdough bread
• Ezekiel bread
(Moderation still matters—this isn’t about perfection.)
3. No fried foods
Please avoid fried foods during the fast.
Examples:
• Fried chicken
• French fries
• Fried fish
• Fried fast food
Choose instead:
• Grilled, baked, or roasted foods
• Simple, clean meals
4. Media Fast (Clear Direction)
During these same 21 days, I am asking that we fast anything digital that is used for entertainment, including:
• Social media
• Streaming
• Online entertainment
• Digital news
If you feel you need the news, I would encourage you to use the radio instead.
It’s just 21 days, and I believe we can do this.
We need to break the habits we’ve developed of reaching for our phones every few minutes. There are talents, abilities, and spiritual sensitivity that have been neglected simply because we’ve become addicted to our phones and all the noise that constantly comes across them.
I know what I’m asking is not easy, but I believe we are capable and I believe the reward will be worth it.
Corporate Prayer Times
We will be praying together every evening during this fast:
• Monday–Saturday: 7:00 PM
• Sundays: 6:00 PM
Whether you join us in person or wherever you are, we invite you to pray with us. Unity doesn’t require the same room, it requires the same heart.
If it helps anyone, Cindy and I will be posting the foundational points of an eating plan we followed and had great success with.
Here are a few scripture for the journey
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” — James 4:8
“I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection…” — 1 Corinthians 9:27
“This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.” — Mark 9:29
This fast is about direction, not condemnation.
If you miss a day, don’t quit.
If you need to adjust for health reasons, that’s OK.
To our church family and everyone in this group, we invite you to walk this journey with us. Let’s move forward together, humble, disciplined, prayerful, and expectant of what God wants to do in us and through us during these 21 days.
